Charlie Demerjian of Theinquirer.net has gotten his hands on a production sample of the up-and-coming GammaChrome S20. While certainly no match for his dual GeForce 7800 SLI setup, Charlie admits that the GammaChrome has substantial gaming power.
Charlie states that, "It looks like S3 is aiming for the mainstream gaming market, above the integrated graphics crowd, but without a price tag to break the budget of the big box store set. If you can run games natively at the resolution of a budget monitor, and fit in the price structure of a budget computer, S3 will do well. I think this card is aimed solidly at the OEM set, but I can also see a reason for the occasional boxed card."

S3's latest video cards, the GammaChrome S18 Pro and S18 Ultra, have been benchmarked and reviewed by Techbits once again. While this set of tests should be considered "Round One," the tests already confirm the strength of the S18 Ultra versus ATI's X600 Pro. Fortunately for some, and unfortunately for others, the GammaChrome S18s are only available in PCI-Express. Users should note that S3 has once again created a low power consumption and low heat output card. Techbits' Review of the GammaChrome S18s

The GammaChrome has been spotted by Charlie Demerjian of theinquirer.net at Intel Developers Forum. The S18 is reported as using RAMBUS technology on GDDR-1 modules with speeds as high as 450MHz. The GammaChrome core is expected to be released running at 500MHz and is to compete directly with the X600 line of cards from ATI. As demonstrated at IDF, the GammaChrome scored 1,960 in 3DMark05 at default settings.
The GammaChrome is expected to hit U.S. soil in the very near future as well as Japan, southeast Asia, and Taiwan. Current partner Club3D is more than likely going to accept the GammaChrome which should ensure distribution to most of Europe as well.
You can find the image of the GammaChrome HERE, and the link to a good article HERE.

S3 Graphics apparently has a new General Manager in, Ken Wang. The information we were able to dig up is that Ken was formerly with SGI and also CHIPS and Technology, a company in the graphics and chipset market.
Stay tuned for further developments and information.

HKEPC has managed to snag themselves a GammaChrome S18 Pro and an S18 CE. A very in depth look at the roadmap of S3 is included as well as the specifications for several of their upcoming products. While it is translated electronically, babel fish does manage to get the general idea across, and you can find the review HERE

According to the roadmaps S3 has products planned for 1st, 3rd, and 4th quarters for 2005, including their best performing S19 (Matrix) in the 4th quarter. Expected yields are to be over 7000 3D03 Marks, placing it well above the 9800 Pro and into the mid range ATI X700 arena.
Thanks to richardyiu for finding the review.

With Half Life 2 having been out for the better part of 2 months now, and drivers written by video card manufacturers, proper benchmark results can be taken. While you'll find little/no comparison of the results below with those that you might find from other websites as the timedemo was custom, I created the timedemo to exercise brute force math, pixel shaders, shadows, and speed loading.

Interestingly/sadly the S8 is not capable of keeping up with the OmniChrome, which is actually an S4 Nitro cored card. After explanation from S3, apparently there are some "glitches" (perhaps inaccuracies is a better term) present in the Club3D S8 core which were caught and corrected in the S4 core. A higher memory bandwidth as a result of higher clocks also boosts the S4 based cards ahead of the S8. Honestly I find this a little disheartening, but on the bright side this proves that the OmniChrome is a well rounded card which is not only capable being a multimedia card, but is also capable of gaming quite well.
Further explanation from S3 is welcome, actually asked for, and perhaps a fundamental breakdown of the S8 and S4 is neccessary in order to understand the differences. Obviously S3 is quite unlike ATI and Nvidia in that their mid range cards are not just clocked down and lowered in the population of pipelines, but these (S4's) were actually engineered to be more efficient.
Image quality is right up there with the Radeon line of cards, and I was not able to find many glitches. There are still a few problems with some textures as they appear in the would be transparent magenta color, but I'm sure those are all to be addressed on a case by case basis.
Test System:
Athlon XP 2500-M @ 2406MHz
1024MB PC3200 Mushkin RAM
Windows XP SP2 151304f prototype drivers

New drivers can be found in the downloads section from this point forth, please navigate there using the panel found on the left portion of your screen.
You will find our file server is about 25 times faster than S3 Graphics home site, but please refrain from hyperlinking our files as this can only be provided free to you because of the light load on our servers.

Once again, in coordination with Techbits.ca, we have produced another review. This time around it is an OmniChrome 256MB Multimedia card. Aimed at competiting with the "All-In-Wonder" card line from ATI, consumers must make a choice between cost and performance.

The OmniChrome is equipped with 256MB of Samsung memory clocked at 350MHz, with an expected 400MHz flavor somewhere down the road; not to mention its optimized DeltaChrome S4 core with A3 stepping.
You can find the feature filled review HERE.

Be on the lookout for more DeltaChrome S8's in the UK. Imagine Graphics has taken interest in S3's HDTV supporting line of cards and looks to start pushing merchandise.
Imagine Graphics Ltd, specialists in computer display technology and digital video systems has announced the launch of their new Pixel Perfect™ PC graphics card with hardware screen rotation specific for digital signage and public information display applications.
We'll keep our eyes out for some benchmarks in the future. You can find the press release HERE.
